Accessibility as a Standard: What Conditions Have Been Created for the Comfort of Biliaivka Hospital Patients
Recently, an updated accessibility route project was discussed in Biliaivka. One of the facilities where accessibility is already evident in practice is Biliaivka Multidisciplinary Hospital. The hospital continues to adapt its premises to ensure comfortable access to healthcare services for all patients, regardless of their health condition or physical abilities.
— A rehabilitation department will soon become operational at our hospital. However, accessibility has long been a basic standard, and we have been gradually expanding it throughout our facility,” explains Nataliia Krasnianska, Director of the hospital. “The number of patients who require an adapted environment is increasing. Our task is to make sure that every person who comes to the hospital can easily reach the department or office they need and feel comfortable while doing so.
A number of spatial improvements aimed at ensuring that all patients can move freely around the facility were launched several years ago. Today, convenient ramps are available at the entrances to the outpatient clinic, inpatient department, and emergency department. A spacious elevator operates between the floors of the inpatient department, making it easy for wheelchair users to access different levels.

All key departments (outpatient, inpatient, and emergency) are equipped with accessible restrooms featuring special grab rails. In addition, patients who require mobility assistance can use wheelchairs and walkers available at the hospital.
The hospital has also taken measures to accommodate people with visual impairments: all information signs on the doors of medical offices are additionally provided in Braille.
However, the director emphasizes that accessibility is not only about infrastructure, but also about social inclusion and communication. That is why the hospital’s medical staff regularly participate in specialized training sessions. Healthcare professionals are trained in appropriate communication with people with disabilities to ensure that interactions are respectful and considerate.
The work to further improve accessibility at the hospital continues.
We would also like to remind you that recently we reported on the parking problem in Biliaivka, where designated parking spaces for drivers with disabilities are constantly occupied.
